SUSTAINABILITY AT WONNA I DE JONG FASTIGHETER

Sustainability was always part of our philosophy and lifestyle, for several generations.

We have been involved in forestry, agriculture and owned properties and private companies for decades and thus have cared for the provision and maintenance of natural resources, including fresh water supply and energy consumption.

Growing up in an environment where recycling of materials and careful use of natural resources was mandatory, we are very familiar with and concerned about the topic of sustainability and its various implementations in daily business and private life.

We focus on sustainability topics that can be influenced by us directly and through their implementation contribute to the greater good.

Our large real estate company is located in Stockholm and surrounding areas. To reduce the environmental impact of our properties, we prioritize energy efficiency, water conservation, and other green initiatives.

Our sustainability plan will ultimately reduce our property’s energy costs and minimize its carbon footprint. Below are some of many aspects we have implemented already years ago to address general sustainability concerns.

INSTALLATION OF ENERGY-EFFICIENT APPLIANCES
Replacing old, inefficient appliances with new energy-saving models is a good way to reduce tenants’ electricity and water bills while minimizing emissions from power plants. Upgrade to models with the Energy Star label which are confirmed to meet certain efficiency standards established by the European Commission and other international energy departments is our common practice.
USE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING MATERIALS
Using sustainable building materials is another important step we take to make our properties more environmentally friendly. Wood and bamboo are sustainable and energy-efficient building materials, typically used to build wals, roofs, framing, and flooring due to their strength, durability, and renewability. Using sustainable building materials does help to reduce the environmental footprint of our properties.
IMPLEMENT WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES
Water conservation is an important aspect of environmentally friendly property management and is a top priority for us, looking to create green, sustainable rental properties. Installing low-flow fixtures, such as low-flow showerheads, toilets, faucets, dishwashers, and water-consuming appliances, is one of the most effective ways to reduce water usage and common practice in our company.
INSTALLATION OF LED LIGHTBULBS
This approach was implemented years ago when LED lightbulbs and fixtures became increasingly available. Fluorescent lightbulbs contain mercury, which will contaminate landfills; however, LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than other types of lightbulbs, last longer and are usually brighter. In all our properties the vast majority of lightbulbs and fixtures are LED-based.
LANDSCAPING
We consider energy efficiency while adding curb appeal with the landscape we decide to establish. Large amounts of grass or plants that require more watering are avoided in favor of the right plants for our climate. This is essential for survivability and prevent replacement of plants every year. We also do not use harmful pesticides to ensure a healthy environment for our tenants.
RECYCLING
All our properties offer recycling to the residents. Providing recycling stations to our tenants does encourage more sustainable living.
Our efforts regarding the implementation of measures that maintain and improve a sustainable environment are ongoing.

Maintaining that rental properties are as sustainable as possible requires not only the landlord’s but also the tenants’ efforts. Therefore, we maintain an ongoing dialogue with our tenants about what items can be recycled, where to recycle them, and why recycling si important. This makes our tenants more aware of their environmental impact and more likely to engage ni sustainable behavior.

We are open to new technologies and ideas that help us strive for better living conditions for out tenants and the reduction of the impact of our properties on the environment.
